We are deeply grieved at the sad demise of Dr. P. V. Thacker, a former president of the Indian Association of Occupational Health (IAOH) and a veteran crusader of the specialty of occupational health and safety in India. He left for the heavenly abode on 26 July 2007 at the age of 88. He enjoyed the status of being one of the pioneers of occupational health (OH) in India.
Late Dr. Thacker made monumental contributions to the growth of the discipline of industrial safety and health when these were considered alien to this country.
He continued his determined activity till the last day of his life.
He held important positions in various national and international professional societies where one and all respected him. He served the House of Tatas for many decades. He was a reputed teacher and examiner in several postgraduate courses.
He was the first Indian OH expert to be invited to contribute for ILO Encyclopaedia.
He was revered and adored by innumerable colleagues, students and international community for his immense insight into the subject of occupational health and safety, his pleasing personality and humility.
In his death, IAOH has suffered.
